Sri Sundararaja Perumal Temple is located in Anbil village of Thiruchirapalli District in Tamilnadu. Anbil Perumal Temple is located near the Bank of River Kaveri, Anbil Sri Sundararaja Perumal Temple is the fifth temple of 108 Divyadesa Vishnu Temples.


Anbil Sri Sundararaja Perumal Temple is one of the oldest temples of Lord Sri Vishnu, Sri Sundararaja Perumal Temple is located near theGrand Anaicut of River Kaveri. The Tamil meaning of ThiruAnbil is The House with Lord Mahalakshmi and Lord Vishnu which is full of Love. Anbil Sri Sundararaja Perumal Temple is one of Temples of Chola Nadu Divyadesams.

The Moolavar idol name is Vadivazhagiya Nambi Perumal and The Utsavar idol name is Sri Sundararaja Perumal, Sri Lakshmi idol name is Alagiyavalli Thayar. Sri Sundararaja Perumal Temple tower is called as Thaaraka Vimanam, Anbil Sundararaja Perumal has got only one poem from Thirumahisai Alwar. Once in a year in month of Maasi Pournami Sri Sundararaja Perumal will comes to River bank of Srirangam in Garuda Vahanam. Sri Sundararaja Perumal and Alagiyavalli Thayar has faced toards the East ddirection.


History of Anbil Sri Sundararaja Perumal Temple:

Once upon the time Lord Brahma and Lord Shiva they both has five heads in their body, but Lord Shiva didn't like that so, he took off one head from Lord Brahma but Lord Shiva was affected with Brahma Kabaalam and Brahma's head was stuck with Lord Shiva's hand, Lord Shiva searched who gives him curse redemption by offering the stuck head with rice. Sage Naradha suggested Anbil Sri Sundararaja Perumal Temple for shiva's curse. Lord Shiva came to Anbil Perumal Temple and got Surrender under the feet of Sri Sundararaja Perumal and Alagiyavalli Thayar and requested for cruse redemption to him, Sri Sundararaja Perumal blessed him and threw a handful of rice to the stuck head, then suddenly the stuck head had vanished from Lord Shiva.

Once upon a time, there lived a sage called Sage Mandoorkar who is involved in severe penance towards Lord Sri Vishnu. Sage Mandookar usually do his penance under the water, Once Sage Durvaasa arrived at the water body where Sage Mandookar usually does his penance. Sage Mandookar doesn't notice the arrival of Sage Durvaasa, so Sage Durvaasa gave the curse to become a Frog. Sage Mandookar requested an apology for his mistake and Sage Durvaasa showed the way for curse redemption for Sage Mandookar to go to Anbil Sri Sundararaja Perumal. Sage Mandookar arrived at Anbil Sri Sundararaja Perumal Temple and surrendered his soul at the Lotus feet of Sri Sundararaja Perumal and requested for the curse redemption. Sri Sundararaja Perumal showed kindness to Sage Mandookar and was released from his Curse which is given by Sage Durvaasa. Sri Sundararaja Perumal also appeared in front of Lord Shiva, Lord Bramha and Goddess Oorvasi. Sundarajan means King of Beauty which attracts and make devotees surrender their life and soul to Perumal's lotus feet.
